The Belfast Trojans, Northern Ireland’s most decorated American Football team are recruiting players to take the field for the 2023 Season! NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE is needed to try out for the team.
Whilst athleticism, strength and speed are all common abilities across the many different positions, American Football offers roles for players of all shapes and sizes, no one should feel excluded.
If this describes you then you only need to attend ONE of our tryouts to be assessed by our Coaches. All that you need for the tryout is to wear clothing suitable for outdoor training and bring your own water bottle. We practice come rain or shine.

The Belfast Trojans - Hall of Fame
Name: Barry Magee
Year Inducted: 2023
Position: Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator
Shamrock Bowls: 🏆🏆
Barry Magee was the first ever head coach of the Trojans and was at the helm for the first three years of its history, including guiding the team to playoff qualification in its first two seasons. At a time when the team was made up of many talented but mostly inexperienced athletes, Barry was there to turn those same athletes in to football players. His experience and knowledge from previously being a player at Loughborough, was invaluable as he laid the foundations for the later success the team achieved.
His legacy will be the development of many players who went on to take up the mantle as successful coaches themselves after learning under his tutelage. Never a rah-rah type of coach, Barry was quiet and unassuming. But he commanded respect and when he talked, players always listened, which is a testament to the high esteem he is held in Trojans circles.

Many of our important games, most memorably the bowl against Trinity, were won before we even got there based on the work of this man off the field. The team is blessed with people like Barry whose effort off the field has such a direct impact on it. Welcome to the HOF Barry!

The Belfast Trojans - Hall of Fame
Name: Nathan Armstrong
Year Inducted: 2023
Position: DB / Defensive Coordinator
Shamrock Bowls: 🏆🏆
Nathan Armstrong was a player as part of the first Shamrock Bowl winning squad back in 2012 and was a key member of the dominant secondary that year. Like several other Hall of Famers, he was cruelly forced to retire early from playing. His attention then turned to coaching, where he spent close to 8 years on the Trojans staff, half of which as Defensive Coordinator.
A diehard Miami Dolphins fan, his passion for the game, in particular for the defensive side of the ball, is almost unrivalled. He could spend hours talking tactics and schemes with anybody that will listen. He's been a key figure in the identity of many Trojans Defenses over the years. His selfless dedication to the Trojans is one of the reasons he has earned his place in the Hall of Fame.
