The Belfast Trojans continue their 2015 season with another trip south, this time to take on the North Kildare Reapers in Kilcock.
The Trojans got the third defence of their title underway a fortnight ago with a convincing 33-8 win over the South Dublin Panthers in Westmanstown.
It was a dominant display particularly by the defence, with the eight Panther points coming via miscues from the offence. On offence, quarterback James McKelvey started the season well, throwing for four touchdowns, two to Dave Richardson, as the champions got the season off to a near-perfect start. North Kildare meanwhile also started well, their defence carrying them to a shutout win over the West Dublin Rhinos 12-0.
The Reapers’ first season in the SBC conference was a successful one a year ago, going 3-5 but this, their first clash with the three-time reigning champions, will be their toughest test to date. Despite that fact, it is set to be another hard-fought fixture for Belfast, as will be the case all season long, with opposing teams elevating their game looking to be the ones who take down the champions. However the Trojans have learned from past mistakes, so don’t expect any complacency to creep into the ranks despite the trip to Scotland to take on East Kildbride only a few short weeks away.
Kick off from Kilcock this Sunday is 1pm.
